This year I flew to:
- Disneyland LA
- Phoenix
- Maine
- Thailand
- Atlanta
- Upstate New York
- Atlanta for Christmas
- (Planned) Singapore in February 2018
- (Planned) Ecuador in May 2018
Most of these trips have been domestic and I was able to find cheap flights so travel hacking was not necessary or beneficial. I also took understandably less trips since I was employed the whole year 🙂 (the horror!) Still, I was able to decrease my costs in the following ways:
Maine Wedding Trip
Economy flight for 20,000 United points over Memorial Day Weekend
Chase Sapphire Travel Delay Reimbursement saved me from shelling out money for a last minute hotel room. That annual fee keeps paying for itself and then some!
SAVINGS: $495
Atlanta Trip
Roundtrip economy flight for 25,000 Delta points
SAVINGS: $500
Ecuador Trip
Roundtrip from Seattle for 70,000 Delta points and $100, which will be reimbursed by my card’s travel credit – it’s awesome when that happens :). However, I did pay a $195 fee for that card. Still worth it.
SAVINGS: $917
TOTAL 2017 TRAVEL HACKING SAVINGS: $1,912
That’s over two months of rent. Sweet!
