Bombas Review: The Best Socks In Existence

If you follow me on Twitter you may have noticed I’m a little obsessed with Bombas socks. Here are some examples of what I mean:

What can I say? When I find something awesome (like financial independence and the perfect socks), I shout about it from the rooftops so everyone can experience the same awesomeness.

As a result of my shouting, a few people have reached out asking why I like these socks so much, which is hard to put into a 280 word tweet so I thought I’d expand my review series to include the innocuous. So, let’s talk about socks!

The Product

Socks are not something I think about on a regular basis. I’m more of a “buy the cheapest 12 pack and replace it when they inevitably get holes” kind of gal. I never gave such things much thought. However, I was visiting my Mom a few years ago, when I noticed some interesting looking socks in her drawer (don’t ask me why I was looking in her drawer…). I asked to try them on and ironically she told me that they were socks she bought after seeing a company on Shark Tank (sensing a pattern here?) and that she didn’t like them.

They were Bombas socks. I’d never heard of them, but I tried them on and promptly FREAKED OUT and told my Mom that the socks were mine now. What’s so amazing about these socks? Basically they’re the best socks I’ve ever worn. They take socks from something I don’t think about to something I love.

Every sock has ‘honeycomb’ technology that hugs your foot in the middle. It makes me feel secure in my sock and personally it feels like a hug for my feet 🙂 . I’ve heard them described as similar to compression socks because of this, but not in an uncomfortable way.

Their ankle socks in particular are my favorite and they are additionally awesome because they have an ankle cushion so the back of your foot never rubs uncomfortably against your shoe. GAMECHANGER! This also helps the socks not slip down like my 12 pack always did.

Bombas has a wide range of sock types (and now ranges of clothing) for your every need. Their performance socks are a little thicker and tighter so they can stick with you no matter what activity you’re tackling, and their regular socks are lighter in case you need more breathing room. They even have slippers that look like bigger, comfier socks that I now need to get my hands on.

Anyway, the reason I love Bombas socks is because they have deeply thought about how to improve a mundane item that takes it from being serviceable to a joy to wear. I’ll get into how they even go above and beyond having an amazing product in the next few sections.

And to complete that story, my Mom has done a complete 180 and now possibly owns more Bombas than I do. She also tells everyone she can about them. It turns out she didn’t give the socks a chance and had a knee jerk reaction to not liking them because they are not like any socks she’d tried before — but that’s part of their magic 🙂 .

The Promise

During their research before starting the company, the Bombas founders discovered that the most needed item in homeless shelters were actually socks. So they built addressing that need into their company. For every item you purchase through them, one is donated to homeless shelters. To date they have donated more than 40 million items – and counting 🙂 . Now that’s a mission I can get behind!

The Customer Service

If having an amazing product and mission wasn’t enough, Bombas customer service is also out of this world. When I’ve contacted customer service myself, they were extremely quick and helpful. They also have a 100% Happiness Guarantee and from what I’ve seen, completely live up to it. For example, if someone mentions on Twitter that they have a sock that ripped or even one that was lost in the wash (yes I’ve seen these tweets), Bombas pops out of nowhere and offers to send them a new product for free. Wowza!

Conclusion

So basically I’ve found my new favorite company and they mainly make socks of all things. A few people on Twitter have mentioned that I should get a kickback for shouting about my love for them and I responded that knowing their feet are happy was enough. Anyway, I’ll see y’all the next time I review something random and innocuous.

What are your favorite clothing brands and why?

  1. Interesting purchases for a frugal blogger living on $20K. These socks are great (have some myself) but cost $16-$22 a pair!

    1. …I’m not a frugal person and I don’t think I’ve ever claimed to be. I buy whatever I want and luckily that amount fit into $18K a year in Seattle. The socks start at $10.50 and the ones I buy (shown in the header image) are $12. Reasonable to me for amazing socks.

  2. I love the idea of the company to donate socks.
As I am volunteering, shoes and socks are a big problem for poor people. For shoes I collect donations around me, wash and pack, and buy myself to add a pair of new socks in each as that children need something warm and new, too.

I use no name socks, cotton, bought on sales (of course), and use less now as we work from home and I am sock-less in house 10 months /year. My problem is related to the event when one of a socks are running out and abandoning me, again and again, but not both together and just one sometimes. So the solution is to buy once 7-10 identical set of socks . Until next year ( or next sales) I would have 5-6 complete sets and when I decide to buy another complete set of socks.

  3. I bought a couple individual pairs at Golf Galaxy recently and love them. The little tab at the back of the heel makes them easier to put on and take off, without stretching out the elastic around the ankle.
I don’t need more right meow, but I will definitely use your referral link the next time I do!!

    1. I’m so glad you like them!! Also I didn’t know a place called Golf Galaxy existed, but it sounds amazing 🙂 !

  4. Random reply to your random post. I’m in Costa Rica right now speaking Spanish on the daily. Bombas is Spanish for bombs and bombero Means fire fighter… So maybe you are such a fan cause u b a FIRE fighter?

    1. Haha love it! And OMG tell Costa Rica I say hi – I miss it so much 🙂 . And oh wow – bombs threw me off, but bombero YES!!! That must be why I like them 😉 .

  5. Whoa! The sock love is amazing! We can’t say that we feel this strongly about any of ours, so maybe we need to consider these when we do our next sock restock. We do have some other products that we are big fans of though. We’re happy to shell out a little extra for stuff that is quality and will last. Since we only carry around a week’s worth of clothing each, our stuff gets a LOT of wear. Thanks for the review!

    1. Haha yeah I don’t usually feel this strongly about things, but with the amount of walking I do having comfy socks is a gamechanger. Doubly so as a nomad. And of course! Glad it was helpful 🙂 .

  6. A fellow sock enthusiast!! I used to LOVE Bombas and gifted regularly for several years, but then I discovered Darn Tough and I’ve been a disciple for about 6 six years any everyone I know receives wool socks for Christmas. I think they start at $25/pair, but you can ship them back for a replacement when they wear through. Well-made socks are life-changing. Thanks for the review! I may need to go revisit the back of my sock drawer to revisit the Bombas. 🙂

  7. I like Bombas socks and mission but I get ticked off with the “20% off sitewide” that is advertised as a general offer but when I enter my info suddenly the code doesn’t work for me as I am not a first time buyer. Why advertise a sitewide coupon code if it’s a lie? That actually seems like… awful customer service. Like, I REALLY don’t get that. For a similar price (actually, a lower price though we are still not talking cheap) I can get excellent socks from icebreaker with a higher merino wool content. If you have stinky feet, higher merino content helps! I may also have to try darn tough, not that any of my icebreaker socks have worn through yet despite a few years’ hard use!

    1. Yeah that sounds misleading. I just went to their site to see what you were talking about and it looks like the deal is over, but they should totally include any huge stipulation like that in the banner. I haven’t hear of icebreaker before – thanks for sharing.
