I’m concerned about us maintaining our awesome culture. One of my former colleagues is actually interviewing for a position here. I referred her (for the referral bonus) but am not sure she matches the culture of our company. She hates her current job and I raved to her about mine so I would be happy for her to get into a better situation, but this encounter still made me wonder if this kind of awesome-ness is sustainable. My last company was the best place I’ve ever worked. It was absolutely amazing and I had a hard time parsing what was the company and what was just working in Seattle instead of Manhattan. Since I was laid off it’s become a literal nightmare. I know all too well how quickly things can change and I just hope we can hold on a while longer here – at least until I retire ;). Though I have more faith that we can hold onto what we have. We’re a much smaller company, we are not owned by a holding company and do not have a larger network breathing down our neck. We should be able to sustain this awesomeness, but even if not I’m enjoying it while it lasts (who said “all good things must end?”).
One of the ways my current company rocks is that instead of our usual monthly company meeting which is an hour of chatting (usually with beer) and an hour of company paid happy hour this month to celebrate the end of the fiscal we’re just having 2+ of food and drinks paid for by the company overlooking a Seattle lake. It should be a lot of fun.
This company is the best place I have ever worked and I am proud that they are being acknowledged. That should hopefully encourage them to keep up the good work. The publication that gave us that honor has invited us to Seattle’s Baseball Stadium SafeCo Field for an awards ceremony during business hours. That should be fun as well. Let’s see what the future brings.
