Eating High Fat Made Me Like Cooking

I’ve never enjoyed cooking. I’ve always seen it as a chore. I cook something for an hour, dirty many pots and pans and since I’m a fast eater scarf it down in about five minutes. This does not seem like a great use of my time. Bad ROI 🙂 . Now that I’m eating Low Carb, High Fat food while doing an Uber Frugal Month challenge I’ve discovered something weird. I don’t hate cooking anymore. I haven’t done a full 180, but I don’t mind cooking. I usually do it at least once a day. I make my breakfast from scratch: 3 scrambled eggs cooking in half a tbsp of butter, an ounce of mozzarella cheese, an ounce of an onion (high carb/sugary – who knew?) and whatever treat I want to put it in: yesterday it was pesto (yum), today it was avocado (YUM!). It takes maybe 10 minutes and I eat it slowly with my tea in a sun-soaked living room.

I believe this change has happened because:
1. I now (suddenly) make delicious food: Butter and fat seem to make all the difference!
2. I’m creating something: the kind of cooking I’m doing now involves almost no processed foods. I’m putting fresh ingredients together and creating something. I feel like I’m eating of the earth (many times removed of course) and that I’m part of nature and the seasons.

As I mentioned in my Dietary Musings, the other unanticipated result of changing my food was a serious decrease in the urge to eat out. Now I don’t have to go out when I want food that has…well…taste 🙂 . I can get that right in my kitchen. Yum. The few times I did eat out I was usually disappointed. We could cook better! And we have. I hope this newfound non-hate for cooking with continue. It’s changing my life.

  1. Awesome post, your recipe for eggs sounds delicious. What are are some of your “go to” meals to make for lunch and dinner?

    1. Thank you! I’m all about eggs. My go-tos for lunch include a double turkey burger (where I use turkey burgers for buns) or literally any normal lunch dish (burgers, sloppy joes, gyros etc) without the bun. For dinner I often cook a large slab of meat with my boy – literally any meat and then eat it with whatever vegetable we have in the house (broccoli, spinach, brussel sprouts etc).
