$275,000 Net Worth

This milestone feels weird to me and I’m not sure why. In January of this year I quickly hit $250,000 net worth thanks to a crazy market, which then entered a correction. It’s taken a few months to get back to where I was now. After adding in my latest paychecks and the market being up 3% we have arrived here.

It’s possible that these numbers are getting too big for me to fathom. It’s also possible that going from $250K to $275K in 6 months is too quick for my brain to comprehend. It might be that $250K marked halfway to retirement and a quarter of a million dollars while $300K marks 60% to retirement and my conservative 2018 net worth goal while $275K is in a weird limbo in the middle. I’m not sure what it is. I’m obviously happy about it, but it’s a different feeling than usual.

Together my partner and I are quickly approaching half a million dollars between us. That might be adding to the feeling of disbelief surrounding my current number. Half a million is my personal goal and the fact that together we’re approaching it after saving for 3.5 years is mind boggling. I’m not sure what this feeling is 🙂 , but it’s interesting. Let’s see how I feel at $300,000…

NOTE: All net worth updates after this one will no longer happen within blog posts. Instead I post monthly net worth updates on my Instagram and update them on The Numbers page. Feel free to check them out if you’re curious!

  1. Just keep on plugging along, buy dividend producing stocks and reinvest those dividends. Before you know it you’ll be able to live solely on dividends and maintain the principal. Being so young, you have time on your side which will ensure your ability to weather a market correction. Keep at it! Great work!

    1. Thanks Jim! I don’t know how I missed this so apologies for the delayed response. Definitely reinvesting dividends over here – we’ll see if they get big enough that I can live off them alone.

  2. Can’t believe this was only a year and 4 months ago. The numbers have been passing by so fast now. Hopefully the market will keep up so you can reach your goal.

    1. Yeah it’s pretty wild. Compound interest is no joke – my net worth increase chart is starting to look exponential. We’ll see what the market does – if it goes down though and I get to pick up more stocks for a discounted price it’ll help in the long run (and help me rebound quickly) so I’m not worried.
